About me

My name is Kai and I am an artist and a children’s author & illustrator. I have a passion for community, nature and cutting up paper. 

 

Collage often feels like solving a puzzle, and I’m simply deciphering where each piece belongs. I primarily use found patterns to create rich illustrations that immerse viewers into my world of collage; I am drawn to bold patterns, and I have a love for creating cohesion between things that intuitively clash. I finish every piece with the hope that it feels as frenzied as it does methodical.

In my children’s book writings, I reconcile nuanced, heavy themes with accessible language that resonates with all ages alike. I want to make books that evoke feelings of sentimentality, safety and ultimately eagerness for the world around us.
